Fr. Ted's "take" on parish councils...

Dear Parishioners,

There is some good news to present regarding parish pastoral councils.

The pastoral council at Saint Thomas in Voluntown has completed updating its by-laws.  Nominations of prospective members will begin shortly.  Elections are scheduled for August.

The pastoral council at Saint Mary in Jewett City has also completed the updating of its by-laws.  Nominations are beginning this weekend.  The selection of new members, whose terms will begin in September , will take place on June 17.

I am in the process of convening an “Interim Council” at Saint Catherine in Preston, whose purpose is to draft by-laws for a parish Pastoral Council.  Once the by-laws are completed, nominations will be held, and members of a parish Pastoral Council will be chosen.   The goal is to have a Council in place by September.

This will place our parishes in a very good position for the upcoming pastoral and fiscal year.

The role and purpose of a pastoral council is primarily to advise the pastor on pastoral needs of the parish and possible responses to those needs.  As we continue forward on our journey of faith, both as individual parishes and as a group or yoke of parishes, having pastoral councils in place will be very beneficial in terms of planning for our future.    If you are interested in serving on the pastoral council of your parish, please watch the parish bulletin for nomination announcements and then fill out and submit a nomination form.

Sincerely,

Fr. Ted Tumicki
