Miscellaneous Issues

Dear Parishioners,

Over the past few months, there have been several incidents in which the sink in the restroom at the rear of the Church has been clogged with candle wax, paper, and screws.  In light of these incidents, the restroom will be locked after each Mass.  It will be open for Masses, funerals, and other Church-sponsored activities, such as rehearsals.  While I do not like to do this, we simply cannot continue having the sink getting clogged.

There is also news regarding the crosswalk in front of the Church.  Since arriving in June of 2011, I have noticed how many people disregard the crosswalk and drive through it even though there are people in it.  On several occasions people have almost gotten hit by vehicles traveling through at a higher rate of speed.

One of the issues involved in this is the cars parked immediately on each side of the crosswalk (as well as in front of the fire hydrant), which results in a greatly diminished sight line.

Since last June I have been talking with borough, town, and state officials to see what can be done to make crossing the street safer.  The State Police have been helpful in this regard with providing additional traffic cones.  They are also working with us to get a new, less bulky sign for the middle of the crosswalk.  Starting next weekend, the parking spaces on each side of the crosswalk will be eliminated during Masses and funerals.  This should allow drivers more distance to see the crosswalk and slow down.  In addition, the presence of bright orange traffic cones may remind people to slow down as well.

As always, if you have any ideas, suggestions, or concerns for how to address these or other issues, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Father Ted Tumicki
