DEVOTIONAL LIFE AND PRAYER GROUPS
Eucharistic Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration is available for all on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 P.M. in the St. Mary Parish Center Chapel in conjunction with the Divine Mercy Devotion and on the first Friday of the month following the 8:00 A.M. Mass at Ss. Thomas & Anne in Voluntown.
Stations of the Cross
The devotion of praying the 14 Stations of the Cross began among the Franciscans, who as guardians of the holy places in Jerusalem, sought by this means to enable Christians to make a pilgrimage at least in spirit.
The Stations of the Cross are a classic Lenten group devotion at St. Mary Church, but of course, are always available to any parishioner as an individual personal devotion.
Divine Mercy Devotion
Every parishioner has an opportunity to participate in the Divine Mercy Devotions popularized by Saint Faustina Kowalska. Our Chaplet of Divine Mercy is held on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 P.M. in the St. Mary Parish Center Chapel. Parishioners and their friends are invited to attend the recitation of the chaplet. The devotion lasts about 30 minutes.
Parish Mission
The Church requires of its members the duty of receiving the sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion at least once a year. Though most of the faithful approach the sacraments more frequently, the "Easter confession" is still singled out in various countries as a solemn rite. The church provides special services of preparation in the form of annual missions for the congregation.
The mission is for those who want to enjoy a renewed appreciation of the season of Lent and experience how the spiritual disciplines traditionally associated with Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving, can be channels of profound self-awareness, guidance and compassion. In a sense, mission week is the Catholic response the "revival".
Every year St. Mary Church hosts a program of parish renewal, usually during Lent, featuring a renowned preacher who touches upon themes and concerns of Catholic life.
All parishioners and friends are welcome.
St. Mary Prayer Line
The Prayer Line Ministry consists of a community of parishioners who, upon request, pray for those with specific needs or for special intentiions. The request may originate from a parishioner or another person, or through a Prayer Line member. email: captain1md@aol.com
We believe the power of prayer to be very consoling and supportive and because we are instruments of intercession, we grow in holiness as we pray for others. When we beseech the Lord to bestow mercy on others, He has mercy on us, and we grow spiritually. As Jesus said "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them" (Matt 18:20).
