Financial Update

August 24, 2014

Dear Parishioners,

Last month, the monthly financial update presented the overall results of the fiscal year 2013-2014. Saint Mary Parish finished the year with a deficit of approximately $32,000. With this result is both good news and bad news.

On the positive, good news side, I am happy to report that our parish has cut expenses by $40,000 compared with the end of the fiscal year three years ago. This reduction includes cuts to the food and household budget for priests, transportation reimbursement for priests, and elimination of full-time positions and replacement with hourly as-needed positions. So we have accomplished quite a lot.

The bad news is that we still have a deficit of $32,000, mainly due to a reduction of income and donations by $18,000 compared with two years ago. Unfortunately, we will not be able to continue indefinitely running in the red, and we cannot cut another $32,000 out of the budget (it simply is not there). In an effort to help alleviate this situation, I have asked the Columbiettes to sponsor a raffle to help raise money for the parish. They have accepted this challenge and more information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.

In September, a full financial report will be presented to all three parishes.

Sincerely,

Father Ted Tumicki
